We return to Darrowby in May 1945. Things are very different at Skeldale House, and James is struggling with a wild and chaotic Siegfried. Tristan returns from war, shocked to see the shift in his brother.

As Jenny prepares for a new adventure, Helen struggles to come to terms with her leaving. Siegfried has an encounter with a troublesome goat. Tristan doubts himself when he tries to fit into Charlotte's world.

James gets himself in a spot of bother when he takes on the role of attending vet at Hensfield dog track. Tristan visits Mrs Ainsley, who has a parrot with an attitude. Jimmy tells Siegfried some home truths.

As VJ Day is announced, Tristan's suppressed emotions rise to the surface and Siegfried has to step up for his brother. James and Richard are baffled when a newborn calf mysteriously goes missing at Heston.
