This is an untransmitted pilot from 1981, presented by Richard Whiteley and Ted Moult but before the addition of Carol Vorderman to the team. There are a number of differences to the main series; the hostesses do not speak; only 8 letters are used and there are a number of format changes, many of which are still being learned by Richard Whiteley even as the show is being filmed!

The second Calendar Countdown pilot was a pilot episode never transmitted, but it did feature Series 1 contestants Joyce Cansfield and Christine Jones, as well as Ian Penny and Alec Buchanan. The next contestant would help Ted Moult in Dictionary Corner. Therefore, Penny helped Ted Moult during the match between Cansfield and Jones. Only the contestant who selected got the points, unless beaten by the other contestant. All letters games had 8 letters. The episode featured one complete game, plus the first 3 rounds of another game. Changes from Episode CCP1 included the extension of the second letters game to 45 seconds, the abolition of the buzz-as-quick-as-you-can-with-a-word round, and the abolition of the "pre-selected word" round.
