Semir and Tom chase a gang of former footballers and parachutists after a spectacular bank robbery. While Mosser escapes, Dalhoff and Justin hijack a bus with hostages and millions in loot. A SEK roadblock fails, and when the bus runs out of gas, the gang forces Semir to replace the driver. He discovers a time bomb on board. Mosser instructs the gang via code: they want to escape in the tunnel while the bus with the hostages rolls on uncontrollably.

Semir is pursuing a young couple on the motorway who have stolen a sports car when a jeep breaks through the police cordon and crashes into the other car. One of the occupants of the jeep limps into the nearby forest with a sports bag and disappears there. A little later, Semir and Tom learn that the occupants of the jeep are bank robbers who have just robbed a branch. Andrea has been able to establish the identity via Interpol: the fugitive is a certain Pieter van Heerlen, his colleague who has been taken to hospital, a Romanian named Tadescu. The doctors determine that he is suffering from a particularly dangerous subtype of diphtheria. Van Heerlen has meanwhile taken Semir hostage and continues his escape with him. The district president orders the SEK to intervene immediately because he fears an epidemic caused by Van Heerlen, who is also ill. Tom does everything he can to help his partner before the hostage situation ends in a bloodbath.

On the way to her wedding, Bernd Raake's bride is killed in an accident on the motorway. Witnesses accuse Gerd Hagemann of having provoked the crash. The groom runs amok and wants to avenge his bride's death on Hagemann, not knowing that he is pursuing the wrong man. At this very moment, Semir is lying in bed, unable to move, with lumbago and thus unable to come to work. Tom's investigations reveal that fake and defective spare parts from Henrik Wenner's car workshop are to blame for the accident. Wenner has valuable car spare parts counterfeited in Poland and Asia and sells them across Europe. He uses his workshop as his headquarters for his illegal activities. Tom is feverishly searching for Wenner, because the groom has also found out that Wenner is to blame for his wife's death and now wants to avenge her death on the real culprit.

The wife of the underworld boss Lorenz wants to testify as a key witness. Tom and Semir provide escort on the highway for the BKA convoy in which Mrs. Lorenz is being transported. The route of the convoy was revealed, so she is suddenly ambushed by Lorenz's men. A group of killers carries out an attack in which the key witness only survives thanks to the courageous intervention of the two highway cops. Tom and Semir go into hiding with her. The BKA then asks for their help in further protecting Mrs. Lorenz. During their investigations, they discover that the BKA special task force that is supposed to protect the witness has been undermined by a mole. Tom's sister Nadja unexpectedly comes to visit. They are observed by Lorenz's men during this meeting. When Lorenz finds out about Nadja's visit, he has her kidnapped and gives Semir's partner a choice: either he brings Lorenz his wife or his sister must die.

After an accident, ex-stuntman Danny feels responsible for his sister's illness and works for the dubious producer Weber, who stages illegal crashes. When an innocent man dies, Tom and Semir investigate and track down Weber. While Weber's client demands another crash, Danny wants to take part one last time, but has no idea that Weber wants to kill him. Tom and Semir race against time to prevent Danny's deadly stunt on the Ahrtal Bridge.

Andrea is on her way to the police station. On the motorway she is flirting with a golf driver when his car is suddenly rammed! The result is a terrible pile-up. Since she was able to remember the license plate of the fleeing car, an arrest warrant is issued. When Andrea sees the picture of the person who caused the accident, which was taken with the help of the golf driver, she recognizes her "clingy" ex-boyfriend Patrick O'Connor. Tom, Semir and Andrea then pay him a visit. He is supposed to go with them to the station for a confrontation, whereupon he flees. A little later the police find the crashed car in a rest stop parking lot. When Tom wants to look at the trunk, he triggers the detonator of a bomb. He and Semir are just able to get to safety. But now they know how dangerous O'Connor is and that he will leave no stone unturned to "possess" Andrea.
