The narrative uses Prokofiev's original score, as performed by the Boston Pops Orchestra. This special was released on DVD in 2001. It was rereleased in 2008, packaged with Sing Yourself Silly in a Sesame Street Double Feature. The DVD version includes various extras including a game in which you must match the sound of an instrument to its picture and a game that involves matching a theme from the ballet to the corresponding character. Fiesta means party in Spanish, and Sesame Street is pulsating with activity in this upbeat preschool program featuring Latino songs. The dialogue is sparse in order to devote most of the 30-minute show to singing and dancing during eight Spanish/English tunes, featuring special performances by Linda Ronstadt and Celia Cruz. Sonny Friendly is the host of "Alphabet Treasure Hunt", a game show where contestants bring in items that start with certain letters of the alphabet. Big Bird may not be able to fly, but he can sing. He joins Snuffy to spend some time looking through Bird's scrapbook and all the reminiscing leads to some singing. As his father spins a tale about a dreary Sesame Street of yesteryear, a place so unfriendly not even Santa Claus would visit, viewers are transported to a period-perfect 19th-century city neighborhood, with characters in authentic hand-sewn costumes, but marked by unkindness and a serious lack of holiday spirit. Luckily, Elmo’s great-great-great-grandmonster moves into the neighborhood with the best of intentions and endless good will, gradually winning over the unhappy citizens and bringing kindness and cheer to Sesame Street once and for all.

A Special Sesame Street Christmas is a 1978 CBS Christmas special, made the same year as Christmas Eve on Sesame Street. It aired on December 8 at 8 pm. The special features only three of the Sesame Street Muppets - Oscar, Big Bird, and Barkley. In addition to the Muppets, Mr. Hooper, David, Bob, and Maria made appearances. The special also features several celebrity cameos and guest stars, including Leslie Uggams, Imogene Coca, Henry Fonda, Michael Jackson, Ethel Merman, Anne Murray and Dick Smothers.

Big Bird is sent to live far from Sesame Street by a pesky social worker. Unhappy, Big Bird runs away from his foster home, prompting the rest of the Sesame Street gang to go on a cross-country journey to find him.

Best of Friends is a Sesame Street DVD featuring clips from the show starring several of the show's central characters - Elmo, Mr. Snuffleupagus, Oscar the Grouch, Telly Monster, Count von Count, Grover, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Zoe, Abby Cadabby, and Rosita. Segments are organized by each of these characters. The DVD was originally a Target exclusive release in September 2012. The DVD got a wider release on March 19, 2013.

The Best of Elmo 3 is a Sesame Street DVD that was released on March 3, 2015. Much like its predecessors (The Best of Elmo and The Best of Elmo 2), the DVD collects various different skits and songs starring Elmo.

Everyone's favorite little red monster is back for the fourth installment of his best moments from Sesame Stree. However, Telly Monster quickly discovers that this means that the current year ends, which upsets him, and because he becomes afraid that he soon will enter an unknown year (mostly due to hearing false things about it from Oscar the Grouch), he starts a campaign to prevent the new year from coming to Sesame Street. In the meantime, Elmo is the host of the monster news that shows how New Year's Eve is celebrated around the world. This is done by showing segments created by the Sesame characters from different co-productions around the world.

When Elmo wishes to be a grown-up and run Hooper's Store, he switches bodies with Chris. When Ernie tries to help his friend achieve his dream of becoming a TV meteorologist, Bert ends up trapped in the television, dashing from show to show. Cookie Monster’s wish for more cookies results in more Cookie…Monsters! Abby Cadabby teams up with her favorite storybook detective – brought to life by a wish, of course – to try and solve the mystery of what’s going on in the neighborhood. The adventure continues until an unlikely (and grouchy) hero intervenes!
