The Road to Coronation Street is the epic story of one man's struggle to make a programme that no one wanted. Granada's formidable bosses Sidney Bernstein and his brother Cecil are not enthusiastic. But together with producer Harry Elton and director Derek Bennett, Tony takes up the battle. He wants cobbles, a pub, seven houses and a shop, but above all he wants northern actors. Led by casting director Margaret Morris and her young assistant Josie Scott, the hunt begins for the legendary cast - Doris Speed, Pat Phoenix, Violet Carson and William Roache. With a last minute change of title, Coronation Street is born.

This special pays tribute to the 33 years and 3,011 episodes in which actress Elizabeth Dawn played Vera Duckworth on Coronation Street. When Vera first appeared in the Street in 1974, Harold Wilson was Prime Minister, The Osmonds were at No 1 in the British charts with Love Me For A Reason, and Annie Walker was landlady of the Rovers Return. Among the famous faces in the documentary are a host of Liz Dawn's Coronation Street co-stars, including Nigel Pivaro, Johnny Briggs, Julie Goodyear, William Roach, Jenny McAlpine, Antony Cotton, Alan Halsall, Vicky Binns and, of course, Bill Tarmey, her long-suffering on-screen husband Jack. Liz Dawn, now 69, had to leave Coronation Street after her chronic (and incurable) lung disease emphysema worsened, the legacy of a lifetime of smoking. She kept her on-set struggles largely secret.

Minnie Caldwell Remembered - A Tribute to Margot Bryant was a half-hour tribute programme to the actress who had died on 1st January 1988. The programme was transmitted at 8.00pm on Thursday 4th February, just over one month later. Minnie Caldwell Remembered Title caption card for the programme The programme was presented by Kenneth Cope with inserts filmed on the 1982 outdoor set. This was Cope's first involvement with Coronation Street since his departure twenty-two years before in 1966 (aside from co-writing two episodes of the spin-off Turn out the Lights in 1967) . His presentation was partially in the character of Jed Stone, the part he had played intermittently in the 1960s, and partly as himself but throughout he wore Jed's trademark cap.

This special was originally shown on 14th March 2003 on ITV2 and repeated as late as 2005. Behind the scenes footage of Episode 5459 (12th March 2003), in which Richard kidnapped the Platt family and attempted to gas them to death before driving them into Weatherfield Canal, was shown within the programme.

Christmas in the Street was a Christmas-themed Coronation Street clip show transmitted on Saturday 28th December 1968 from 6.15pm to 7.05pm. The special features archive clips of previous Christmas editions of the programme. Arthur Leslie and Doris Speed appear in linking scenes set entirely in the Rovers Return Inn, playing their usual characters Jack and Annie Walker. H.V. Kershaw was the Executive Producer (and possible writer) while Tim Jones directed the linking sequences.
